Assam DGP GP Singh interacts with children as part of Child Rights Week

GUWAHATI: As a part of the Sishu Mitra Programme, a collaborative effort of the Assam Police with UNICEF and UTSAH, as a part of the Child Rights Week celebrations, the Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, had an interactive session with young ones from all the children’s homes in Kamrup (M) at the Assam Police Headquarters, Guwahati.

During the interactive session, the DGP touched upon various issues related to the children’s future, their education, careers, upbringing, and the role of both the police and society in safeguarding children. “Children should be able to dream big, and we as a society should be able to create the appropriate context so that children can stay safe and achieve their dreams,” said the DGP. The interaction was followed by a Q&A session. The children asked questions related to preparing for competitive exams, understanding the workings and administration of the police, the safety and rights of children, and the civic duties of citizens, amongst others.

After the programme, the children took a tour of the DGP Office and had the opportunity for photo ops on the official chairs of both the DGP and Special DGP. Harmeet Singh, Special DGP, Assam Police HQ, and Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of UNICEF Assam, among other dignitaries from UNICEF and the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Assam, attended the programme.

The Child Rights Week celebrations that started on November 14 would continue until World Children’s Day on November 20, 2023, stated a press release.
