Guwahati: A case was registered against a self-proclaimed Ayurveda expert named Pankaj Pathak, on Tuesday, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a married woman scribe on a social media platform.
Pankaj allegedly vilified the woman and her husband through several posts uploaded on his Facebook account.
However, his remarks did not go down well with several organizations, who complained to the cops about his abusive behavior and accused him of jeopardizing the modesty of the woman.
Pathak had recently made some controversial statements against the woman in a video that he posted on his personal account.
The woman's husband, who also happens to be a journalist, responded by publicly opposing it on social media.
Apparently, this sparked the row and Pathak immediately took to his social media account and started uploading posts against the couple using unpleasant comments.
Following the development, Pankaj Pathak, who happened to be a member of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the ruling BJP in Assam, was expelled by his party for violating the constitution of the party and this move came in response to the massive controversy that immediately flared up on social media.
"The Gauhati Press Club feels that such personal attacks in social media and that too against a woman are in bad taste and demands a thorough investigation into the allegations. We would like to request Assam Police to take stringent action against the accused if found guilty," Gauhati Press Club in a statement said while reacting to the development.
