GUWAHATI: Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have extended greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Holi.

Governor Mukhi said that the festival of colours marks the onset of the warmer season and victory of good over evil.

Mukhi said in a message, "I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all on the auspicious occasion of Holi - the festival of colours. May this festival bring peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness to all."

The Governor also said that the colours of Holi reflect the State's diversity and multi-cultural heritage. He hoped that the joyous spirit of the Holi festival rejuvenates and strengthens the age-old bond of love, harmony and understanding existing in the society.

"I also hope the festival becomes a harbinger of joy, happiness and merriment for all, cutting across all caste, creed and ethnicity. I also hope that the colours of Holi help everybody to overcome seasonal ailments and lead people to become healthy", the Governor added.

The Chief Minister said that this festival, which is most notable celebration in Krishna culture, enlivens society both spiritually and culturally. Mentioning that the Doul festival has traditionally had a special place in Assam, Sarma said that this festival will strengthen the bonds of harmony and brotherhood.

Other who extended Holi greetings to the people included, Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, BJP State unit president Bhabesh Kalita and BJP MP (Rajya Sabha) Bhubaneswar Kalita.
