GUWAHATI: With a view to giving the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 new momentum, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria held a daylong meeting with the directors and heads of the institutions of higher education to assess their preparedness for the implementation of NEP 2020 in Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, the Governor said that the need of the hour is to effectively implement NEP 2020 in letter and spirit. He, therefore, advocated for meticulous planning and synergy among all the stakeholders to effectively roll out the policy.
The Governor said that the Directors and VCs have knowledge and rich experience that should be used to uplift the qualitative dimension of education and align the provisions of the new education policy to meet the needs of the state. He said, “We should learn from our experiences and try to implement the NEP 2020 effectively so that our young generation gets the optimum benefit of the policy”. Moreover, considering the divergent needs of present-day society and the fact that a multidisciplinary approach to education can fulfil the needs of society, the Governor asked the Directors and VCs to implement all the provisions of the NEP to realise the multidisciplinary vision outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
Presentations were made by Director IIT-G Prof. Parameshwar K.Iyer, Director IIIT-G Gautam Baruah, VC National Law University and Judicial Academy Prof. V.K. Ahuja, Principal Director and Head CIPET Guwahati S.Y.Shirali, Director NIPER, Dr. U.S.N. Murty, Director (i/c) Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar Dr. Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Executive Director of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Guwahati Dr. Y. Jayanta Singh, VC Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Borah, and VC Assam Skill University, Mangaladai Shubhash Chandra Das, presented their respective action plans for the implementation of NEP 2020.
The meeting was attended among others by Advisor Education, Govt. of Assam Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Advisor Chancellor’s Secretariat Prof. M.K. Choudhury, Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Biswaranjan Samal, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Higher Education Narayan Konwar, Secretary Judicial Department Kuntal Sharma Pathak, Secretary to the Governor Swapna Dutta Deka, and other senior officers of the government, stated a press release.
