GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, on his day-long visit to Kamrup district on Saturday, held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, SP, heads of departments, and other stakeholders and took stock of the developmental works and prevailing law and order in the district.

While chairing the meeting at the conference hall of the Integrated DC Office, Kamrup, the Governor took stock of the performance of all the departments. Moreover, he also took stock of the implementation of different schemes undertaken by departments like health, education, agriculture, PHE, social welfare, and MGNREGA, among others. He directed the district administration to take special initiatives to ensure that the fruits of all government schemes reach the lowest strata of society at the earliest possible time. Deputy Commissioner Kamrup Keerthi Jalli apprised the Governor of the several development projects currently underway in the district. He also said that the district administration has been on its toes to extend the fruits of governance to all sections of the people of the district.

Governor Kataria also took stock of the progress of the Amrit Sarovar Yojana and its impact on the public. He asked the officials to conduct meetings, interact with the villagers, and get their feedback on the scheme. He also stressed that agriculture is one of the major contributors to socio-economic development and therefore asked the DC and District Agricultural Officer to give proper training to the farmers so that they can practice multiple cropping on their lands. He also said that the farmers may also be taken to other states where twelve-month crops are grown.

The governor also said that, along with their existing farms, farmers can create additional income through fish farming. He said that the youth can be involved in fishery expansion, which will create job opportunities. He also met a delegation of self-help groups (SHGs) who demonstrated impressive creative skills in crafting products using recycled water hyacinths. The Governor also asked all the functionaries to be punctual and transparent in their dealings and contribute to the development of the district as well as the state. SP Kamrup Hitesh Ch Roy gave an insight into the law and order situation prevailing in the district. The governor stressed the disposal of cybercrimes and also said that steps should be taken so that 100 percent punishment is given to the heinous crime offenders.

The Governor also visited IIT-Guwahati and interacted with Officiating Director Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, faculty members, and students. He also appreciated the teachers for taking up the challenging task of rearing the students, who are the future of the country. He also said that preparing the students for employment should not be the only agenda, stated a press release
