GUWAHATI: The state Health Department has set the target of October 15, 2021, for inoculating at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to all eligible people in the state.

The vaccination drive for the general public started in March 2021 in the state. According to Health Department sources, around 2.30 crore people in the state are eligible (18+) for taking Covid-19 vaccines. The supply of the Covid-19 vaccine to the state has picked up the pace now. The department is trying to intensify the vaccination drive.

According to sources in the department, both Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister Keshab Mahanta took up the issue of vaccine supply to the state with Union Health Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya during his recent visit to the state. The vaccine supply to the state picked up pace after that.

The department has inoculated mostly Covishield in the state. The stock of the Covid-19 vaccine was 17,37,850 doses this morning.

The Health Department and the NHM (National Health Mission) noticed that some people have not turned up for the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The department and the NHM will reach such people personally with the help of ASHA workers and ANMs (auxiliary nurse midwives). The department has issued instruction for this to the district, block and village levels for personal contact to people whose second dose of vaccines are either due or overdue.
