GUWAHATI: The AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) has alleged that BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led government is preparing to set up English medium model schools across the State. The newly-floated party has demanded that the education in these model schools should not be imparted in English but vernacular languages. It also stressed that the old vernacular language schools should be renovated and modernized with the latest educational equipment.
"The scheme to set up English medium model schools was introduced during the Sonowal government, and the current government is focused on implementing it. Various vernacular language schools are more than 100 years old. It is the need of the hour to renovate these schools and provide the necessary equipment to modernize them," said AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi. "If the government had introduced a scheme to renovate and modernize these vernacular language schools then the students would have been benefitted. The decision to set up English medium schools violates Clause VI of the Assam Accord," said AJP general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan.
