GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly, cutting across party lines, welcomed the decision of the Assam Government to observe the birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma as Students' Day. The Assembly paid a rich tribute to the Bodo leader.
The members of the House paid tribute to Brahma at the central hall of the Assembly today. The members also spoke in memory of Brahma inside the House.
Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary spoke about how Upendranath Brahma came out as a great leader from a penury-driven family. "It is his determination that made Brahma the leader of the entire Bodo community. The Bodos can never repay what Brahma did for the Bodos in his life spanning only 34 years."
Congress MLA Bharat Chandra Narah recalled how Brahma started discussions with the then-AGP government in the state and the central government on various demands of the Bodos.
BPF leader Durga Das Bodo said that he was a roommate of Brahma at the university. "He was a cool-headed person, but was determined in his core demands."
UPPL leader Govinda Basumatary, CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Talukdar, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam (senior), Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi, and others also spoke on the Bodo leader.
