GUWAHATI: Unlike every other year, the Assam Legislative Assembly may skip its Winter Session this year. According to sources, the State Assembly Secretariat sent a file to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) for holding the Winter Session. However, the file has not been returned to the Assembly Secretariat as yet.

According to Assembly Rules and Conduct of Business, any session of the State Assembly has to be summoned at least 21 days ahead of it. In the present situation, it seems that the possibility of holding the Winter Session of the State Assembly this time around is remote. Now Dispur is busy in the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) and the TAC (Tiwa Autonomous Council) polls. While the BTC poll is slated to be held in two phases on December 7 and 10, the TAC poll will be held on December 17. In the event of the State Assembly skipping its Winter Session, it will have to hold the Interim Budget Session (Vote on Account) in January, 2021. That will be the last session on this government.
