GUWAHATI: The prime accused in the Noonmati double murder case, Bandana Kalita, was granted bail on Friday by the Kamrup (M) District and Sessions Judge Court.
Bandana Kalita was the main accused for the murder of her husband and mother-in-law and later chopping the bodies and disposing of the body parts in Meghalaya. She was granted bail based on a few terms and conditions, including her presence at the Noonmati Police Station twice a week and taking permission before leaving the district.
The co-accused in the same case, Dhonti Deka, also got bail, while the third person arrested in connection with the case was granted bail a month earlier.
The spine-chilling double murder case came to light in the month of February this year when police arrested the prime accused, Bandana Kalita. The trio allegedly murdered Bandana's husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and mother-in-law, Sankari Dey. According to Bandana's statements during interrogation, she was married to Amarjyoti Dey against the wishes of their families. Their post-marital relationship was not cordial, as her husband had relationships with multiple women, and she also had a bitter relationship with Sankari Dey. To get rid of those two, she planned this whole murder with her associates.
Noonmati police drafted a 1300-page chargesheet in the spine-chilling double murder case in Guwahati. The three prime accused, Bandana Kalita, Arup Deka, and Dhonti Deka, have been named in the chargesheet. The police will submit the charge sheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on May 15. Based on every report and piece of evidence, the charge sheet has been drafted.
