GUWAHATI: Given persisting doubts about the role of certain erstwhile officials of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in the Combined Competitive Examinations (CCE) of 2013 and 2014, the Assam Police grilled the then Principal Controller of Examinations of the APSC, Nandu Babu Singh. The police let him go after the interrogation. The police will call him for more grilling. The police asked Singh to appear for a fresh inquiry in connection with the case registered in 2016 by the Dibrugarh police.

Nandu Babu Singh was APSC's Principal Controller of Examinations when the controversial CCEs of 2013 and 2014 were conducted - i.e., from March 2013 to July 2015. It is pertinent to mention that the one-man judicial inquiry commission comprising Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma completed an inquiry into the CCE 2013 and submitted the relevant report to the State government. The judicial inquiry into CCE 2014 is currently underway. The judicial probe panel had also issued a notice to Nandu Babu Singh recently seeking clarifications from the former Principal Controller of Examinations of the APSC.

After the grilling, Investigating officer Surjeet Singh Panesar told the media that 'Singh said that he forgot many things. We asked him some questions, but he failed to reply. We asked him to recall the things he forgot. We will grill him again. He will have to reply since he was at the helm of affairs."
