GUWAHATI: APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) clarified it did not secretly increase the electricity tariff by 30 paise per unit.
In a clarification, the APDCL said, "We have come across news published in some of the electronic and print media regarding the increase in electricity tariffs. According to the reports, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has secretly increased electricity tariffs by 30 paise per unit since December."
In this regard, APDCL would like to clarify that the electricity bills of the esteemed consumers had increased by 30 paise per unit from September 2022 (August 2022 electricity consumption) to November 2022 (October 2022 electricity consumption) due to Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA). "The FPPPA charge was fixed at 79 paise per unit instead of 30 paise per unit from the December 2022 bill (November 2022 electricity consumption). However, APDCL, sensitive to public objections, later decided to retain the charge at 30 paise per unit like the previous three months. This notice was also published on the website of APDCL on December 9, 2022 in consumers' interest. Therefore, the news that the electricity tariff has been secretly and additionally increased by 30 paise per unit from December 2022 onwards compared to the previous three months is completely baseless. The tariff in December 2022 remains the same as the previous month. It is to inform the respected media and kind consumers of the truth of the news," the clarification said.
