GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has slammed the government for the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, APCC general secretary (administration) Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya said that the government was busy looting the common people while keeping them busy in emotional issues. "The ruling alliance is busy in horse trading ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls while the prices of fuel and essential commodities have sky-rocketed. Even a lemon costs Rs 15 now!" he said.
The APCC urged the people of Assam to open their eyes and see the reality instead of getting carried away by emotion. Bhattacharya further said, "The united opposition parties of Assam have nominated a candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. No matter how much the ruling BJP party indulges in cheap, divisive tactics and unethical temptations, the anti-BJP vote is not going to be divided and we will win surely.
"The statement made by the State Legislative Assembly Speaker on the Rajya Sabha elections is very shameful. He seems to have forgotten the unbiased position entrusted by the Constitution upon the Speaker."
