GUWAHATI: As per the desire of the State Government, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has prepared a 'Flood Preparedness Index' for the first time in Assam to ensure improved flood management measures at the grass-root level.

The ASDMA has sent the Flood Management Index to all Deputy Commissioners for submission of required data. The ASDMA will analyse the feedback from the Deputy Commissioners and gauge the preparedness of the district administrations concerned regarding flood management parameters.

The index contains 200 data points such as selection of sites for setting up relief camps; whether the approach roads to these sites are in good condition; whether there is separate space for infants; whether liaison is being done with the local chambers of commerce and the FCI; and whether rates have been fixed for procurement of ration, utensils, tarpaulin sheets, drinking water etc.

After receiving the data in the index format, the ASMDA will carry out pinpoint analysis between May 15 and May 31.

The districts found to be best prepared for flood management will be felicitated by the ASDMA as a mark of encouragement.

The ASDMA is confident that if the district administrations prepare as per the Index points, then flood management will be much better this time.
