GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is set to provide five speed boats to as many riparian districts in the State for rescue operation during disaster. And one of the speed boats has already arrived in Majuli.

According to ASDMA sources, one each of the other four speed boats will be given to the DDMA (District Disaster Management Authority) of Dhubri, Mankachar, Dhemaji and Barpeta districts. While the expenditure of the speed boats is of the ASDMA, the onus of their maintenance lies with the respective deputy commissioners and the DDMAs. ASDMA sources said that the speed boats are equipped with modern gadgets like GPS (Global positioning system), toilet facility etc.

The ASDMA is dedicating these boats under its funds from fiscal 2020-21.
