Assam State Primary Teachers' Association demands appointment of headmasters

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) submitted a letter to the Education Minister of the state as well as the Secretary for the Education Department of the state demanding the appointment of headmasters in the primary schools of the state ahead of the implementation of Sikshasetu. The association said that it would bear the costs of SIM cards and recharges for the tablets given by the department.

In the letter, the general secretary of ASPTA, Ratul Chandra Goswami, mentioned that they have met with the chief minister and the education minister multiple times since 1982 for the appointment of headmasters in the primary schools.

"On December 17, 2020, the Education Department agreed to rename the post of the senior assistant teachers to the headmasters in these institutions along with a financial incentive, but it has not been implemented to date. People continue to be engaged in other government responsibilities instead of appointing people to the position," he said.

He also mentioned that recently the duty of managing the Sikshasetu was also given to these schools, but no new responsibility will be taken by them until the appointment of the headmasters. "Tablets for the Sikhasetu have been given by the department, but the recharge and SIM cards for the same should also be given by the Education Department, just as they are given by the Social Welfare and Health departments," he added.
