GUWAHATI: Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) objected the inclusion of second Saturday of special casual leave under Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme which will start from February 9. Earlier, in November 28, 2022, General Administration Department (GAD) issued a notification where the Government of Assam is pleased to allow the state government employees to avail special casual leave under Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme on February 9 and February 10. This leave can be utilized along with February 11 which is a second Saturday and February 12 which is a Sunday for Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme.
ASPTA has objected and wrote a letter to the Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu about the inclusion of second Saturday, February 11. They have said that all regular government employees except the teachers get second Saturday of every month as a holiday. Thus, except the teachers, all the government employees will get special casual leave from February 9 to February 12. So, ASPTA have demanded that there should be special scheduled leave for the teachers' body or else February 11 which is a second Saturday should be declared as a holiday, so that the teachers can also get the benefits of the Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme.
The government has opened a portal and asked the employees to apply for the Special Casual Leave through the portal. The Assam Government has brought some changes where there will be a special casual leave that will be granted to the employees to live with parents. On February 1, the GAD issued a notification about the changes, which states, the State government employees who are engaged in essential services like Police, Fire and emergency services, disaster management, health and family welfare etc. and those who are involved in G20 related works, can avail the special casual leave to spend with their living parents and parents-in-law in a phased manner during the current year. The notification also said, one-fourth of the employees of these departments may be allowed to avail the above facility each month by the respective departments, so that the essential public services are not hampered, and also the employees who avail the special casual leave for the said purpose shall ensure that they spend the holidays with their living parents and parents-in-law.
