GUWAHATI: The Assam State Warehousing Corporation (ASWC) under the State Cooperation Department is providing storage space for essential commodities, through its 26 warehouse centres located in 18 districts during the period of national lockdown.

The employees of ASWC, along with other frontline workers of various departments, are discharging their responsibilities tirelessly in maintaining the supply chain of essential commodities, in the battle against COVID-19. While most of the people are confined at home because of the lockdown, Assam State Warehousing Corporation employees engaged in storage of essential commodities are working in their respective warehouse centres, despite the risk of getting infected as they have to deal with truck drivers and labourers every day.

The ASWC has stored huge quantity of foodgrains of FCI in its godowns at Bongaigaon, Goalpara and Haiborgaon, and assisted in the receipt and delivery of the same. Other items being stored in its godowns include wheat, paddy, sugar, maize, salt, edible oils, poultry feed, fertilizers & chemicals, cement, school books, school bags, besides other agricultural products. Paper reel used for printing of newspaper is also being stored in the godowns.

The service provided by ASWC to the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative ltd. (IFFCO) and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd. (BVFC) for storage / receipt / delivery of their products, during this period of lockdown, has been appreciated by both organisations. The ASWC is also providing service to the district administration in Kamrup (M) and Lakhimpur for storage and packaging of relief materials for distribution amongst beneficiaries, in its warehouses.
