GUWAHATI: The Diwali celebrations in the State were marred by fire mishaps with 81 fire-related incidents reported from various districts across Assam. Among the districts, Kamrup (metro) recorded the highest number of fire mishaps with 14 cases during the two days of the festival.

As many as 47 fire incidents were reported from the State on November 4 followed by 34 cases on November 5, an official of the fire and emergency services said. Most of the incidents were triggered by bursting of fire crackers. Several houses, commercial establishments, shops and godowns were gutted in the fire mishaps during the Diwali celebrations. As per reports no human lives were lost in the fire incidents. However, properties worth crores were damaged in the blaze.

As per data of the fire and emergency services, Tinsukia district (including Sadiya) recorded 10 fire cases followed by Cachar (7), Dibrugarh (6) and Sonitpur (5). Udalguri recorded four cases while Sivasagar, Kamrup (rural), Nagaon and Nalbari reported three cases each. Similarly, Barpeta, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji witnessed two fire mishaps each while Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Jorhat, Bajali, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Karbi Anglong- East and Karbi Anglong- West had a solitary case of fire mishap each during Diwali.
