GUWAHATI: Tarali Sarmah and Dr Sumi Choudhury Das, representing India, were awarded as 'Mrs Photogenic' and 'Mrs Glamorous' respectively in the 'Mrs International Global World Finale 2023' held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently.

This was a five-day international program wherein 23 national winners of different countries like India, Mexico, Japan, Vietnam, Ukraine, Philippines, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Latin USA, Sri Lanka, Botswana, China etc, participated. They were judged on the basis of their personality, talent and interpersonal skills.

This platform has been initiated by 'Mrs International Global (MIG)' to celebrate women's rights and to give recognition to women who exemplify empowerment in their chosen careers and have made themselves unique as they influence others and serve as an inspiration for change.

On the first day of the programme, both Sumi Choudhury Das and Tarali Sarmah presented Assam's handcrafted rhinos, phulam gamosa, jaapi and xorai to the delegates of all the participating countries as a token of respect. During the programme of 'talent and cultural night', Tarali Sarmah performed Bihu dance and also showcased Assam's rich traditional attire 'muga mekhela sador' and the complete Bihu dance costume as the pride of Assam. Sumi Choudhury Das performed a dance drama on the 'greatest woman freedom fighter' India ever had - queen of Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai.

During the advocacy presentation and personal interview round, Sumi Choudhury Das presented the advocacy for 'sex education in rural schools and prevention of sexual violence', and Tarali Sarmah presented the advocacy for 'gender equality with a special focus on girl education & women empowerment'. The final event was conducted in the High Convention Hall of Kuala Lumpur, wherein Tarali Sarmah represented the national bird Peacock and Sumi Choudhury Das represented the national flower Lotus with their costumes.

Both Sumi Choudhury Das and Tarali Sarmah shared that it was a heartwarming experience for them to represent the country and to get associated with the women of various parts of the world and to receive the love and respect from all the stakeholders associated with the programme.
