GUWAHATI: Assam's Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora announced various awards, honours and pensions for eminent artistes of the State on Sunday to mark the eve of 'Silpi Divas', the birth anniversary of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala.
Addressing the media at the Janata Bhawan here, Bora announced that the 'Silpi Award' for 2022 will be jointly bestowed upon two artistes, namely Dr Aparna Buzarbaruah and Pulak Banerjee.
The cultural awards for 2021, which were not given away due to the COVID-19 situation, will also be presented on Monday. Of these pending awards, the 'Bir Raghab Moran' award will be presented to Dr Upen Rabha Hakasam; the 'Sahityacharjya Atul Chandra Hazarikia' award will be given to theatre artiste Upokul Bordoloi; the 'Nata Surja Phani Sarma' award will be given to another theatre artiste, Abhinash Sarma; the 'Bishnu Rabha' award will be jointly given to noted painter Sonaram Nath and noted folk artiste Drona Bhuyan..
All the awards will comprise a cash award of Rs 2 lakh, a citation and an Angabastra (shawl).
The Cultural Affairs Minister also announced 'Silpi Pension 2021-2022' for 50 artistes of the State for their distinguished contribution in the field of art and culture. The pensioners will receive an amount of Rs 8,000 per month.
The pension recipients include, among others, Guneswar Bhuyan, Anil Brahma, Moinul Haque and Bina Baruwati.
The awards and pensions will be presented by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a function which be held at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra on Monday.
Bora further informed that a one-time financial grant, named 'Barxik Silpi Sanman 2021-2022', worth Rs 50,000 each will be given to 150 artistes for their distinguished contribution in the field of art and culture.
A one-time 'Special Financial Assistance' of Rs 50,000 each will be also given to the families of 18 deceased artistes of Assam.
