Assam's Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Pijush Hazarika makes surprise visits to rehab centres

GUWAHATI: Assam's Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Pijush Hazarika on Monday made a surprise visits to three rehabilitation centers in the city and expressed satisfaction over comparative improvement of their condition.

Last year, after taking charge of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, the Minister had made surprise visits to some rehabilitation centres in Guwahati and was surprised to see the poor condition of the centres. After that the minister met with the owners of the rehabilitation centers based in Guwahati and asked them to for improve the conditions of the centers. Minister Hazarika also asked the department to prepare some guidelines for running a rehabilitation centre in Assam.

As a follow-up, Hazarika visited three rehabilitation centers - Peace Foundation, Kripa Foundation and Recovery Wellness Society - and expressed satisfaction over the improved condition of the centers. Hazarika also interacted with the inmates of the centres.

Speaking to the media later, Hazarika said that the inmates of rehabilitation centers are very much a part of the society and special care must be taken to help them to return to the mainstream society. In this context, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is doing many things under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, an official release quoted the Minister as saying.
