Assembly to take action against Sherman only if he is convicted: Speaker Biswajit Daimary

GUWAHATI: If convicted, the ALA (Assam Legislative Assembly) will initiate action as per law against Baghbar legislator Sherman Ali Ahmed.

Talking to media persons, ALA Speaker Biswajit Daimary said, "After the arrest of the MLA, Police informed the ALA. Accordingly, the Assembly Secretariat published a bulletin in this case. So far, only charges have been levelled against him. However, he may be convicted or even acquitted of those charges. The issue is now subjudice."

The Speaker of ALA clarified that the police must take permission from the Speaker to arrest an MLA only if the House is in session. But in this particular case, there is no need for the police to take prior permission as the ALA is not in session.
