GUWAHATI: Some ATM frauds have learnt new tricks about duping people from YouTube.

Government Railway Police (GRP) sources informed that two hackers whom they had arrested on Monday - Om Singh and Vinay Kumar – revealed during interrogation that they learnt a novel technique of using ATM cards belonging to other people to withdraw money from the victims' bank accounts. The duo first used to strike up friendships with the targeted victims. Subsequently, the two frauds used to request the new friend to allow use of his bank account to receive and withdraw remittances (via ATM card) involving small amounts of money.

Finally, they succeeded in cajoling some victims to disclose the ATM pin and loan the card itself, at which stage they would withdraw a large sum of money from the victim's bank account via the ATM card and also jam the cash tray of the machine as soon as the money was ejected. This would result in the machine showing 'system error' and thereby ensure delay in discovery of the fraudulent transaction.

It may be mentioned that the GRP recovered as many as 33 ATM cards from the two frauds when they were arrested at the Guwahati Railway Station.
