GUWAHATI: Mastermind Society and Development organized a one-day seminar on 'Therapeutic Strategies for Children with Multiple Disabilities' in association with the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).
Manigandam Rajandiram and Sactivelam were there, as were speech therapist Dr. Bhaskarjyoti Deka and physiotherapist Dr Ajit Kumar Chaubey. More than 100 participants took part, including Asha workers, school teachers, a few parents of Divyangjan, and many more.
In his speech, Sactivelam stated that the main goal is to raise awareness about treatment options for people with disabilities. From childhood onwards, one must take care of what a child goes through and its surroundings. Also, during the pregnancy period, it is the most crucial stage for looking after the child's surroundings. Any person with disabilities should have their parents enhance their conversational skills and try to interact with their child. There are a lot of schemes through which a person can avail himself, and this should be made known by the social workers and Asha workers. There are various medical facilities that their parents should be made aware of so they can get access to them. In Assam, there are Composite Regional Centres (CRCs) where medical treatment is given. Also, free medical care is provided to those living below the poverty line.
