GUWAHATI: An awareness campaign on 'Air Pollution due to Vehicular Exhaust', under the aegis of National Clean Air Programme, Government of India, was carried out on March 23 and March 24, at Chandmari, Khanapara on the GS Road by the Guwahati Regional Office of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) in association with the transport department, district administration and traffic police.
According to a press release, under this programme emission testing of several petrol vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, were done. Out of this 96 per cent vehicles were found compliant to the standards of emission prescribed by the Government of India.
The programme was attended by officials from Central Laboratory, Pollution Control Board and officals from Guwahati Regional Office of the District Transport Office, Kamrup (M) and traffic police.
Leaflets were published by the Guwahati Regional Office, PCBA, which listed the causes, effects and mitigation measures to be adopted to control air pollution due to vehicular emission. The leaflets were distributed among the public to create awareness.
