GUWAHATI: World Mental Health Day is observed every year on October 10 and to mark the occasion, an awareness walkathon and cyclathon was carried out in Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) at 6 am on Thursday. This year’s theme was ‘Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention.’
The event was jointly organized by National Health Mission, Assam and Psychiatry Department, GMCH. The event was flagged off by Dr. Lakshmanan S, IAS, Mission Director, NHM, Assam in presence of other officials and participants.
The participants actively took part holding various placards with messages on Mental Health issues and to end the stigmatization of mentally ill patients. The walkathon started from GMCH campus to Ulubari Flyover via G.S. Road and back and the Cyclothon started from the GMCH premises to Ganeshguri via Nehru Stadium, Silpukhuri and back. During the activities the participants cheered through different slogans.
