GUWAHATI: The Save Bharalu Abhiyan organized an awareness event in the Fatashil Sishu Vidyapith ME School on Friday to spread awareness regarding the need to protect the river among the students of the school.

The awareness campaign undertaken on the premises of the school was attended by a large number of students and teachers. Several members of the Save Bharalu Abhiyan were present for the event, including its president, Dr RN Mazumder, and they explained to the children the need for preserving the natural waterway. They also explained how the river, which was once vibrant with aquatic life, has now been reduced to a mere sewage canal. He also mentioned how it can return to its previous condition by enacting and implementing proper regulations.

The event was conducted under their Catch Them Young (CTY) initiative, which aims at educating the children and youth about the need for the conservation of the river for the proper functioning of the city’s waterways. The speakers also highlighted the need for the natural waterways of the city to ensure that the problems of urban flooding remain under control.
