GUWAHATI: The Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Assam and the State's Department of Higher Education, under the aegis of the State Level Quality Assurance Cell, Assam organized a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Awareness programme on Tuesday at the B Borooah College for sensitizing higher education institutions (HEIs) on the need to develop optimal strategy for the NAAC accreditation process.

The programme was held in presence of an NAAC advisory team - Dr Sujata Shanbhag, Advisor, NAAC and Dr Priya Narayanan, Assistant Adviser, NAAC.

In the inaugural session, Education Advisor to the Government of Assam- Prof (Dr) Nani Gopal Mahanta focused on the need to put in a dedicated and concerted effort by the colleges and universities to overcome all hurdles and complete the accreditation process. He reiterated that all the stakeholders in the education scenario have to move into 'Lachit' mode to positively deliver on what is expected by society despite all odds and reach the goal. He also stressed the need of 'transformative leadership' by the institutional heads to create a vibrant higher education ecosystem.

All necessary support and augmentation of 'critical gaps' by policy level intervention and timely execution was assured by Narayan Konwar, Secretary of Higher Education and Dharma Kanta Mili, Director of Higher Education. They also urged the principals to invest time and energy to deliver upon the vision of their colleges and uplift them to the next level. The advisory body focused on the importance of the NAAC process and urged all concerned not to be baffled by the outcome. They assured stage-wise hand-holding of HEIs for the accreditation process in coordination with State Level Quality Assurance Cell.

The colleges and universities were given comprehensive presentation on the processes. The stage-wise profiling of HEIs was done for targeted focus and mentoring of HEIs to meet the requirements of the accreditation process. The presentation by NAAC Advisory Board and Prof Utpal Sarma from Gauhati University cleared the apprehensions of the institutions towards the NAAC process and encouraged them to proactively participate in the journey of imparting 'quality' education.
