GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University (GU) NSS Cell organized an awareness programme on 'Swachhta' (cleanliness) at university campus along with an orientation programme for the NSS volunteers. Welcoming the guests Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students' Welfare, GU and Programme Coordinator GU NSS Cell elaborated about the contribution of NSS volunteers and their role for making the society clean and green. The programme was inaugurated by Professor Dilip Kr. Borah, Secretary, University Classes, GU who highlighted the noble cause of NSS volunteership and necessary contributions that may be done for the society. Professor Borah also mentioned about motto of NSS wherein a volunteer provides community service through personal development. Attending the programme as Guest of Honour, Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS, NER, Guwahati explained the role of NSS volunteers and the activities to be performed during regular and special camping programmes. The Resource Person of the programme Bornali Ghosh, WASH Monitoring Specialist, UNICEF and SBM (G), Assam spoke about the need to create awareness on plastic waste management, effective disposal of plastic waste, use of dustbin and safe disposal of bio and non - bio degradable waste products and to develop an action plan for organizing programme on 'Swachhta' during regular and special activities for NSS units. Dr. Rituparna Borah, NSS P.O., GU Campus offered the vote of thanks. Around 150 NSS volunteers attended the programme.
