Bengali students demand action against miscreants fomenting enmity

GUWAHATI: In view of certain so-called torchbearers of the Bengali language trying to promote enmity between the Assamese and Hindu Bengali people over social media, the All Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation has requested the State government to keep a keen eye on such miscreants and undertake due action against them. Mentioning the sending of notices to several Hindu-Bengalis from the Foreigners Tribunal, the organisation asked the government to stop it immediately.

The organisation also pointed out the unavailability of AADHAR cards for those who gave their biometrics during the NRC process. Also, since no action has been taken regarding the D voter category, they are planning to organize another protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They followed on to demand the granting of citizenship to the Hindu Bengalis by implementing the Immigrant (Expulsion from Assam) Act in 1950.

Addressing the media, the Federation's General Secretary, Ajoy Bhushan Sarkar, said that during the NRC upgrade process, those Hindu Bengalis who gave their biometrics still did not receive their Aadhaar card links. "We have already informed the government regarding this issue, but the government is not paying attention to it," he said. AABYSA also urged that the Hindu Bengali be granted citizenship under the Immigration Expulsion from Assam Act 1950. Additionally, there should be a separate satellite council for Hindu Bengalis in Assam.
