Biswanath: The impact of Bharat Bandh called by the protesting farmers at Singhu Border, Delhi on Tuesday was seen in Biswanath Chariali, Assam.

The Nikhil Bharat Krishak Sabha along with some peasants were seen protesting on National Highway No 15 in Biswanath. They were also seen stopping vehicular movement on the highway. All the shops and business establishments of Bishwanath were completely shut.

A protester said, "The 3 farm laws implemented by the Government needs to be repealed or else the farmers of the country will keep protesting. By implementing these laws, the government wants to take away our rights and the farmers would not be benefited by this." Protesters also voiced their concerns against the Government's privatization policy.

In the middle of a standoff with the government over new farm regulations, a national strike by farmers in India has begun on Tuesday from 11 in the morning and it will continue till 3 in the afternoon.

The protesting farmers have called for this 'peaceful' protest ahead of the sixth round of talks with the government regarding agricultural laws passed by the Parliament recently. The bandh is backed by around 15 Opposition parties and several trade unions.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting against the Centre's farm laws, in Delhi border since last month.

The Centre has released COVID guidelines to be followed during the nationwide stir.

Most of the protesting farmers are from the northern states of Punjab and Haryana and belong to the country's richest agricultural communities. Their movement has found resonance on social media, and among the influential Sikh community of Punjab and overseas.

The farmers have been urging people across the country to support their cause in a non-violent manner as their protest is not intended to cause trouble for common people.

Another round of talks with the Government is scheduled for Wednesday.
