GUWAHATI: BJP Assam Pradesh district committees on Saturday held a meeting with party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass in the chair at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati. The meeting was on the drive for enrollment of BJP Assam Pradesh active members that is set to start on Sunday throughout the State. Each active member of the BJP has a three-year term. After the completion of the term, an active member has to renew his/her term an as active member. A committee comprising a convener and two members has already been formed in each of the 39 administrative districts of the party in the State. The conveners and members of all those committees were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the primary membership drive of the party that began on July 6 and that was supposed to conclude on August 11 has been extended till August 18. Such a step was taken as the drive had to be halted during the floods in the State.
The State BJP’s formation of new committees of the party will start from September 2019. Booth, madal, district and state committees will be formed afresh.
State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, while addressing the press on Wednesday at the State BJP headquarters, said that the drive is being launched not just in Assam but all over India. The BJP has appointed Radha Mohan Singh as the party’s National Election in-charge and on Wednesday, State BJP appointed Minister Bhabesh Kalita as the State Election in-charge, who will be assisted by four co in-charge members. These members will supervise the entire new committee formation drive in the State.
Further, the Mandal Committees of the BJP will double in number, where in addition to the previous 303 members the number will be increased to 600 members. A single Mandal will cover 10 panchayats.
