GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) vice president Dulu Ahmed in a press meet said that the common public is facing a grim condition due to the constant hike in essential commodities. The AJP leader also alleged that during the Congress led Assam government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders protested for the rise in price of essential commodities but now the BJP led Assam government itself has failed to curb the prices.

"The BJP election manifesto also said that they will curb the prices of essential items but could do nothing since BJP came into power in 2016 with a steep hike in price every day," said Dulu Ahmed.

Ahmed said that since May 2016, the prices of essential commodities in the wholesale market has gone up by 100 percent if compared in 2021 and also had affected the retail market with a hike of 20-30 percent.

Comparing the price of essential commodities in the retail market from April 2021 till now the leader said that the prices have gone up by 20 percent.

Further the AJP, questioning the Chief Minister and Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Ranjeet Dass said that, if the income level of individuals of the state has gone up or not as for the prices of the essential commodities has doubled in the last 5 years. The newly formed regional party also alleged that like in the last 5 years the BJP led Assam government did nothing to curb the prices of essential commodities, this time also they are having an ignorant approach to the price rise.
