BJP manifesto for Guwahati Municipal Corporation poll released

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday released the State BJP's manifesto (Sanklapa Patra) for the forthcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election at a function at the party headquarters at Hengerabari here.

The manifesto announced the party's resolve to make Guwahati city the 'gateway to the North-East' in the true sense and also that it would strive to expedite the city growth.

The resolutions highlighted in the manifesto include: uninterrupted supply of potable water; solution of the problem of artificial floods in the city; setting up of a hospital in each ward of the GMC; make Guwahati crime-free; improvement of communication facilities and improvement of transport facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister promised to give land rights under the Basundhara-2 scheme to people who have been living for a long time on Government land, hill areas and Debuttor Board land.

He further said that arrangements are being made to ensure that registration of land sale/purchase can be done online in a single day from May 10 onwards.

Sarma also reiterated the BJP's resolve to provide potable water 24x7 to the residents of the city. He further informed that the water supply funded by JICA in the city will be commissioned in June and subsequently 5,000 to 8,000 water supply connections will be provided every month.

Sarma also assured the residents of Guwahati that every possible step is being taken to resolve the problem of artificial floods. In this connection, he informed that 12 super sucker machines and 24 tankers have been procured under the Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) to ensure scientific cleaning of drains in Guwahati.

Under Project Jyoti under the GSCL, 10,000 streetlight and 3,000 new electric poles will be installed in Guwahati, he said.

Further, the Chief Minister said, 60,000 families living in Guwahati will be covered under the Orunodoi scheme.

He said that work has already started for converting all city roads into tarmac/block paved roads.

The Chief Minister said that two flyovers have been constructed in the last five years and another three are under construction – Zoo Road, Maligaon and Sharabbhatti. Further, four more flyovers are being planned in the city – at Garchuk, Bhetapara, Lokhra and Dighalipukhuri to Noonmati.

Sarma further informed that a survey is underway for a proposed ropeway link between Khanapara to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport at Borjhar.

Sarma further informed that the Government is mulling a 'Metrolite' train service for Guwahati. A cable-car network covering 25 km is also under consideration, he said. Those present on the occasion included State party president Bhabesh Kalita, GMDA Minister Ashok Singhal, MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharjya, AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and MPs Dilip Saikia, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Pallab Lochan Das and Pabitra Margherita.
