GUWAHATI: Former Tezpur MP of the BJP RP Sharmah formally joined the Congress at Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday. APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia and other senior Congress leaders were present at the joining programme.

After joining the party, Sharmah said that his prime aim is to topple the BJP. He said that the Congress would form the next Government at Dispur. "The Assembly election in the State 2021 will be ours. The 100+ seats as claimed by State BJP president Ranjeet Das won't be a reality. However, we'll come out winner with around 80 seats," he said, and added: "From today our occupy-Dispur mission has been started. After Dispur, we'll occupy Delhi as well." A number of other leaders from various fields also joined the Congress at the function.
