GUWAHATI: It is nothing new that hospital staff employees have been caught in various incidents for selling blood for money by using illegal tactics in some cases, and one such case came to the forefront where a blood broker was caught red-handed by a Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) employee.

According to police sources, the accused is identified as Lal Bahadur Sheikh, hailing from South Salmara. Sheikh took Rs 10,000 from whom he sold the blood. He took the money from the patient’s attendant.

Talking to the media, GMCH Superintendent Dr. Abhijit Sarma said, “Today, the in-charge of our blood bank, Dr. Dipankar Baruah, received a complaint that a person was selling blood in exchange for Rs. 10,000. Following this, our employee caught the accused red-handed. As of now, we have handed him over to the Bhangagarh Police for further legal proceedings.”

He also confessed that 10 more people are involved in the illegal selling of blood in return for money.

Sheikh further added during the interrogation that “the kingpin of the whole work is Dhon, who resides in the Geetanagar area. The police have started an investigation in search of him.”
