GUWAHATI: Prabajan Virodhi Manch (PVM) stated that the newly signed Bodo peace accord will create more problems, than resolving any. Convenor of PVM Upamanyu Hazarika in a press release stated that, “The Bodos by virtue of Scheduled Tribe status enjoy more privileges compared to other communities, the BTC Council created virtually for only Bodo welfare has in its working over the last 17 years created a strong sense of discrimination amongst the other indigenous communities in BTAD areas.”
Hazarika asserted that “Any accord has to necessarily be in consultation and agreement with all the affected indigenous communities, unilateral Accord with one to the exclusion of the others will create new tensions. The need is to address the aspiration of the non Bodo indigenous communities in BTAD, by reversing the discrimination faced by them and having equal political and other rights.”
