GUWAHATI: After a week, flood waters finally started receding in the city area over the last 24 hours as rainfall decreased considerably overnight.

However, the river Brahmaputra on Monday reached the highest water level in Guwahati during this monsoon season. The water level crossed the danger mark and stood at 49.95 mm as of 10 am today.

The water level of the river rose by 12 cm between 6 pm yesterday and 6 am today. Meanwhile, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha disclosed that as many as 77 landslides occurred in Guwahati during the last seven days.

Jha again appealed to people living in landslide-prone areas to shift to safer locations.
