Businessman's throat slit by extortionists in Guwahati, one arrested

GUWAHATI: A businessman's throat was he refused to pay extortion money. The inident took place in the city on Sunday evening under Geetanagar PS. Three youths came to demand money from Musahid Ali, owner of Riyan Service Centre.

This was not the first time that these youths had demanded money from Ali. These had allegedly made extortion demands earlier also. On Sunday evening, when Ali did not pay the money demanded, the youths allegedly slit his throat with a blade. Ali is now undergoing treatment for his injury. His family lodged an FIR against the three youths, who are brothers. They have been identified as Jinkumoni Sarma, Jitumoni Sarma and Ankur Sarma.

Geetanagar Police registered a case (368/2021). Ankur was arrested on Sunday night. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. His brothers are absconding.
