GUWAHATI: The campaign for the by-polls in four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) slated for October 21 has reached its crescendo with the ruling BJP pressing two helicopters into service. Barring Jania LAC where the BJP, Congress and the AIUDF have been locked in a three-corner contest, the contest in the other three constituencies is a straight fight between the BJP and the Opposition Congress.

All the parties have been campaigning in accordance with their respective agenda. The ruling BJP seems have laid more stress on the campaign with the deployment of two helicopters kept at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati. Three top leaders of the party in the State – Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma and State party president Ranjeet Kumar Dass – are to use the two helicopters during their campaign. The party has a detailed schedule for campaign for these three leaders. Dass used one of the two helicopters to campaign in Jania LAC on Sunday. He is going to campaign in the constituency again on October 16 and 19, in Rangapara LAC on October 15 and in Ratabari LAC on October 18.

Chief Minister Sonowal, on the other hand, will campaign in Ratabari LAC on October 14, in Jania LAC on October 15, in Rangapara LAC on October 16 and in Sonari LAC on October 17.

Himanta Biswa Sarma will campaign in Jania LAC on October 14, in Ratabari LAC on October 15, in Rangapara LAC on October 17 and in Sonari LAC on October 18. The party has also entrusted its top leaders to take the charges of the four LACs going to by-polls. The Opposition Congress, on the other hand, is not going to hire any helicopters for the campaign. State Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora and other top leaders of the party are to go for campaign for their candidates in the four LACs with cars. Since the AIUDF has fielded its candidate in Jania LAC, party president Badruddin Ajmal is going to address a number of poll rallies in the constituency.
