GUWAHATI: The carcass of a wild elephant was recovered from Bakrapara under Rani reserve forest on Tuesday.

Forest officials reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The post-mortem report suggested that the male wild elephant was about 30 years old. It had died on Monday night and the cause of death is suspected to be stomach ailment. However, to find out the exact cause of death, a part of the carcass has been sent to the Assam Veterinary College, Khanapara. The carcass was buried after the post-mortem.

Wild elephants often come out of the Rani reserve forest in search of food and incidents of man-elephant conflict are often reported from the neighbouring areas.
