A group of Guwahati-based teenagers took the vow not to neglect their ageing parents, many of whom had to pass their lives in old age homes as their children abandon them.

GUWAHATI: A group of Guwahati-based teenagers took the vow not to neglect their ageing parents, many of whom had to pass their lives in old age homes as their children abandon them.

This group of people disowned parents or grandparents leaving them languish in old age homes.

On Christmas Day, a group of children visited 'Mother Old Age Home' in the Guwahati and spent several hours with them. All these children sought blessings from the inmates of the Old Age Home by touching their feet which made all the inmates misty-eyed.

Pragya Jonak, a class IX standard student of Army Public School, Narangi while anchoring the programme explained in details of their aim and said that the group of children have taken a pledge to take proper care of their parents and grandparents and would also ensure that no parents or grandparents should spend their last life in Old Age homes. Taking part in today's program, Anjista Nath, Pahi Phukan, Khyati Deka, Devraj Kashyap, Kavya Pallav, Kridip Raj, Upamanyoo Rishi Das, Angkita Sarma and Shreya Haldar also touched hearts and minds of the inmates with their presentation of cultural performances and offered them delicious 'payas or khir' snacks, cakes and biscuits.

Women activist and Home Baker Subhalakhsmi Kataki, teacher of Army Public School at Narangi, Babita Nath and Eva Gupta also accompanied the group of children who already have formed an organization namely 'Writing for Rights', a press release said.
