CID, Assam Police probe into Bajali case gathers steam

GUWAHATI: Investigation by the CID into the Bajali extortion case is continuing at a rapid pace, even as a team headed to Howly for a probe, taking along arrested supari trader Shahidul Islam.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), after conducting a hearing into his case, has extended the CID custody of former SP Siddhartha Buragohain by four more days.

On the other hand, former DSP Pushkal Gogoi was sent to judicial custody for his connection to the case.

Meanwhile, a CID team launched an investigation in Howly, with arrested supari trader Shahidul Islam in tow. The team was astonished at the sheer scale of the property allegedly garnered by Islam from the supari trade, said sources.

According to sources, Shahidul Islam was on good terms with the accused former SP Siddhartha Buragohain, former DSP Pushkal Gogoi and former ASP Gayatri Sonowal. He was in touch with both the former SP and supari trader Rabiul Islam, acting as the middleman.
