GUWAHATI: The Eco Club of Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati organized a cleanliness drive on the theme 'Respect River, River is lifeline' on the bank of the Brahmaputra at Uzanbazar here from 8 am to 10:30 am on Sunday and a cycle rally from the college to the river bank to create awareness among people about the importance of waste management and reduction of single-use plastic for pollution-free air and water.

According to a press release, the event is a part of Swachhta Action Plant of Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC). In the event, the Eco Club volunteers were supported by Arya Vidyapeeth Student's Union, NSS and NCC units of the college.

After the cleaning, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) staff took away the garbage and a part of the collected garbage was taken by an organization for recycling. A total of 150 students participated in the drive.

The principal of the college, Dr Pradip Kumar Bhattacharyya, inaugurated and actively participated in the cleanliness drive. Before the cleanliness drive, students took part in the cycle rally which was flagged off in the college premises by the college's former vice-principal Dr Ganesh Choudhury.

A non-government organization 'Nature's Trail Foundation' and Studio TS put forward their support to the event by way of active participation and voluntary documentation, respectively.
