GUWAHATI: The Transport Department of the state has intensified its awareness drives against defaulters in terms of taxes. Officials also distributed pamphlets and leaflets among the public regarding the same.

Gautam Das, the Assistant Commissioner of Transport and DTO said, “It is the duty of the public to pay taxes on time. We are trying our best to spread awareness among the public of the state. Once this drive is completed, we will start with the checking of the vehicles followed by their seizure if found necessary.” The official also mentioned that the last date to clear all the pending taxes is March 31. After that, the department will levy a fine of Rs 10000 per day or even seize the vehicle.

He also mentioned that the pending amounts can be paid online via the Parivahan website or mobile application and requested the public to avoid the penalty.
