GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday attended a function titled 'Hamder Moner Katha' held at the Janata Bhawan, where seven sub-committee formed for the overall welfare of the tea tribes community in the State presented their consultative feedback.
Addressing the function, the Chief Minister said that the State Government had constituted seven sub-committees covering health, nutrition, education, skills and employment, economic empowerment, arts and culture, sports, land allocation and housing for the people belonging to tea tribes community. He said that the State Government will take firm steps to address the recommendations of the sub-committee through short-term, medium-term and long-term measures. Sarma said that the present State Government has taken various steps to achieve the comprehensive welfare of the tea tribes community, including taking steps to advance the new generation of the tea community in the education sector. He said 97 model schools have been established and 22 are under construction in the tea garden areas. He also said that recently the President laid the foundation stones of 100 such schools, which will bring the total number of schools to 219 once completed. The State Government will convert these schools into higher secondary schools. He added that one college each would be constructed covering 12 to 15 tea gardens.
The Chief Minister said the number of seats reserved in the medical colleges has been increased and number has gone up to 27 at this moment. He further said that three seats will be reserved in each of the new medical colleges.
