GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday attended and watched an air show put up by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) of the Indian Air Force in the skies over Guwahati near Lachit Ghat on the bank of the River Brahmaputra.
Performed by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team with nine Hawk Mk.132 aircraft, the show lasted for around 30 minutes during which some of the most stunning stunts were displayed, much to awe of the invited dignitaries and the members of the general public.
Speaking to media persons present, the Chief Minister congratulated the Indian Air Force family for putting up a spectacular show of this magnitude, and expressed hope that such events would encourage and motivate youths of the State to join the defence services of the country.
Raised in the year 1996, SKAT is a part of the 52nd Squadron of the Indian Air Force. SKAT is one among the few aerobatics teams in the world to be performing with nine or more aircraft.
Prem Mukhi, wife of Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Air Marshal (Eastern Air Command) DK Patnaik, Assam Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur and a host of senior civil and defence officials, along with hundreds of members of the general public were present, stated a press release.
