All sections of society must unite to fight the pandemic: Sonowal
GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday held a meeting with the representatives of various Central government organizations, army and paramilitary forces, oil PSUs etc at Assam Administrative Staff College and discussed ways to ramp up public health infrastructure in the State in case COVID-19 situation deteriorates. He said that due to the increased capacity of healthcare facilities in the first wave of the pandemic, the infected people have not been facing any difficulty in receiving medical care in the State till now but he stressed the need to prepare for all eventualities in view of the surging number of cases.
The Chief Minister urged all stakeholders to strengthen the government's efforts to contain the pandemic while working as a team and called on the participating organizations in the meeting to keep 50 per cent beds in their hospitals for general COVID patients. He also urged them to increase ICU beds in those hospitals and assured that the State government would provide necessary facilities like oxygen etc for the purpose.
Saying that Assam performed in an exemplary manner in the fight against the first wave of the pandemic due to the united efforts of all stakeholders, Sonowal expressed optimism that the State would succeed again in its efforts to curb the latest wave of COVID-19. The participating organizations in the meeting appreciated the State government's measures against the pandemic and assured all help in this regard, stated a release.
Principal Secretary of the Health Department Samir Kumar Sinha gave a PowerPoint presentation on the various steps taken for containing the spread of COVID-19 in the meeting which was attended by Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, GOC of Indian Army's 4 Corps, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Paban Kumar Barthakur, top State officials of Indian Air Force, BSF, CRPF CISF, SSB, NDRF, NF Railway, Airports Authority of India, ONGC, OIL, IOCL among others.
