GUWAHATI: The teachers of the colleges across the state alleged that although the state government had taken several decisions towards the betterment of the higher education sector of the state, many of these decisions have now been implemented. They alleged that a total of 596 teachers were promoted to the senior scale with selection grades. Although the list was released on February 13, 2022. These teachers have not received their increased salaries yet. Apart from these, 430 Associate Professors were promoted as per the list published on November 17, 2022, by the directorate of higher education. But no work has been done in this direction either. These decisions remain only in files, and nothing happens yet in reality, as mentioned by the teachers.

The teachers also pointed out that the state government has stopped paying the teachers an increment on the completion of their PhD degrees since 2016. They added that the Education Minister of the state, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, keeps on talking about the need for higher education, but the decisions taken by them are never implemented. They mentioned that the state government has no money with them, so they had to stop the increments, and the government keeps on taking loans to undertake other projects but pays no heed to the problems faced by the teachers.
